The 29-year-old current contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the season.
The former Austria international has recently been strongly linked with a move to 1860 Munich.
“Of course, I would love to stay here beyond this season because everybody knows how good a club Sheffield United is, especially with how we are doing this season,” he said.
“You can sense how well this club is run on a match-day with the fans more than playing their part this year and the way we are playing the game is great as well.
“That starts with the manager and his philosophy and I’d love to extend my stay here because the future looks a bright one for this club.
“We’ll just have to see how things go I guess because the games are going to be coming thick and fast, so contract talks might have to wait for a while.”
