Jansen decided to retire from football rather than joining the MLS.
“LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew offered me contracts,” Jansen recalled to the News & Star. “But it was the wrong time.”
Jansen also turned down a move to Manchester United in 1998.
