Panucci played for Chelsea from August to December 2000.
He said: “My Chelsea career was brief because I only went there for Gianluca Vialli, so when he went after about five games, I went too.”
He continued on their 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night: “Tonight I am truly infuriated, because we could have been there for three or four days and Chelsea would not have scored.
“We played a great game, but were penalised by a block on a set play. We really needed this positive result here and it is maddening that we leave empty-handed.
“At least we can take heart from the fact it was a solid performance and we are on the right track.”
