Windass has been in talks with the League One club about a loan move, but Leeds chairman Ken Bates is not willing to match the veteran’s £10,000-a-week wages.
Elland Road boss Gary McAllister said: “He’s one of lots of players who are making calls via agents and want to come here.
“Dean Windass, for somebody his age, is in fantastic condition and still capable.
“He falls into the category of a group of players who want to come here.
“Playing for Leeds is a nice proposition. The size of the squad doesn’t stop us looking at people.
“But we’re still looking at players going the other way out of the club.”
