Reports have suggested that he has been falling out with manager Roy Keane and will look to leave the club in January.
“As far as I am aware there are no problems between Dean and Roy, you would think if they had had a ‘furious bust-up’ then he wouldn’t be playing again,” Whitehead’s agent Phil Sproson told setantasports.com. “So I don’t think that is that case.
“I can’t see it [Whitehead leaving Sunderland in January]. He is under contract. He is the captain of the side.
“There have been rumours about him wanting to leave Sunderland for 12, 18 months but if you speak to Dean yourself you will find that that couldn’t be further from the truth. He enjoys it there.
“But people like to make something out of that because he has been linked with one or two other clubs he is obviously going to go, but there are certainly no plans to move him away from Sunderland.”
