Celtic striker blasts Ronaldo

He told The Daily Record: “Maybe it’s because it’s the Champions League. Maybe it’s because it’s Manchester United.

“Or maybe it’s just because it’s Ronaldo we’re talking about but I don’t think there are many situations in football where a referee would let someone get away with something like that.

“I won the ball and gave him a bit of a shoulder charge at the same time. The ball fell between us and went out of play but as I got back up he just had a boot at me.

“He connected with my calf or my shin, I’m not too sure. I was just so taken aback that he had reacted like that because I knew if it had been me I would have been in serious trouble.

“Maybe the ref didn’t see it too well but his linesman was only a few yards away and must have had a clear view.

“I just don’t think there should be one rule for the rest of us and another one for Cristiano Ronaldo.

“I’m not going to cry about it. I have had a lot worse and no doubt I’ll have more to come in the future.

“But it annoys me when I know that I wouldn’t have got away with it had I had a boot at Ronaldo.

“I’m not saying he should have been sent off. Those are decisions for the officials to make – but they surely can’t just ignore it.

“At the very least he should have been booked and been given a talking too. That’s what I would have expected if it had been me.”
