“There is a special rivalry between these two teams. There have been a lot of changes in both squads but everybody remembers the game in 2001 when we lost 5-1,” said Gomez.
“But today I believe that Germany are the superior team and we will prove that on the pitch.
“It will be a fierce game and one that we want to win.”
Gomes reckons England striker Theo Walcott is the biggest threat to Germany.
“Everybody has seen how England have improved under Capello. But we know what we have to do to win the game,” Gomez commented.
“For me the biggest danger that England offer is the speed of their attack, and recently that has meant Theo Walcott.
“It is true he is an incredible player and I have watched a lot of his games for Arsenal and England. He has such speed and can get in behind defences and is difficult to get the ball off.
“This is a massive game because playing England at any time is a big and attractive fixture. There will be nothing friendly about this game.”
