The Spaniards are looking for a replacement for the injured Ruud Van Nistelrooy and has been linked with several of Europe’s best strikers in recent weeks.
“Real Madrid put in a transfer request, there was some contact with the Spanish club through their emissaries,” confirmed Preziosi on Radio Kiss Kiss.
“I simply replied that he is our striker and will not be moving from Genoa.”
He added: “In an egotistical way I am happy he didn’t get called up by Diego Maradona for this week’s friendly with Scotland. He is the only centre-forward we’ve got and it is good that he stays here, even if he thoroughly deserves to be called up.”
