United conceded two first-half goals and Rooney insists they can play ‘a lot better’.
“We know we can play a lot better,” he told Sky Sports. “Aalborg were definitely a better team than we played in the first game. But with the quality we have got we should be winning these games.
“In the first half the tempo of our game wasn’t good and they caught us on the counter-attack a few too many times.
“I think in the second half we could have won the game.”
He added: “It was disappointing to be leading one-nil and then to concede two sloppy goals, we are really disappointed with that and thankfully we got the equaliser and we still ended up topping the group.”
