He said: “Liverpool are well equipped to stay at the top of the table. They have brought in good players but the key men are Carragher and Gerrard.
“Carragher is one of the best defenders in the world in my book but then Gerrard is THE best midfielder.
“He can play wide, behind the striker or holding, and looks world-class in every position.
“On that basis, I would suggest that he is the best midfielder in the world.
“Carra doesn’t get mentioned so often but if he was playing for England people would see him as one of the best in the world too.”
