The 25-year-old Egyptian striker has struggled to settle at Middlesbrough and will now stay with the Latics until the end of the season.
“I was far from being happy at Boro,” Mido is quoted as saying in the Sunday Mirror.
“The situation of the club was very poor due to the bad results, and this atmosphere allowed more problems to surface.
“I started feeling I need to be in another place to feel happy again. For a month and a half, I didn’t feel happy to train at Boro because of the many problems there.
“I started to feel happy again when I attended my first training session with Wigan on Friday.”
