The 25-year-old is contracted to Bayern until 2011, but he has been linked with several big clubs including Real Madrid, Chelsea and Inter in recent months.
“I want to keep him, of course. We want him to stay,” Beckenbauer told Premiere.
“We will do everything but, if he wants to go, he should be able to leave.
“These days in the business of football, you don’t have to follow the rules of contracts so strictly. The player has more power than the club.
“And who would not want to join Real Madrid?”
