The 22-year-old has impressed this season and is keen to get back in Van Basten’s squad after a one-year absence.
“The strange thing is that I was called up for the national side as a defender. However, I’m a midfielder and not a defender,” said Emanuelson to VI.
“I don’t understand the fact that I’m playing my best season in my career so far, but that I haven’t received a call-up for Oranje in a year.
“I don’t know how head coach Bert van Marwijk feels about me, but I don’t feel like I’m on the verge of an Oranje return. I really want to represent The Netherlands again though and I’ll do my utmost to convince him of my qualities.”
