Carrick desperate to win the FA Cup

Carrick is yet to win an FA Cup gong with United and are desperate to beat Everton in the semi-finals.

He said: “The Chelsea final was the first time I’d been in an FA Cup final and the fact we had won the league first meant we were really set up to go and win it.

“The FA Cup is still a big thing for players. It is something I have been desperate to win for as long as I can remember.

“It was always the biggest day of the season when I was growing up, with the build-up and everything that surrounded it. I used to spend the whole day in front of the telly.

“Of course the Champions League and Premier League are now both huge competitions but the tradition and history of the Cup is very special and it is up there with the best.

“It was the first one at the new Wembley. It was a special game but it didn’t quite fall for us on the day.

“Chelsea just managed to nick one. We could have nicked it 1-0 ourselves but that’s just how it goes.

“I haven’t really come close to winning the FA Cup yet apart from that.

“It is a huge competition and one I have been desperate to win. Hopefully there is one in front of me.”
