Robertson told the Daily Record: “We were contacted by an agent early in the season who told us of a possible interest in Robert from Barcelona.
“It seems they have loaned out a lot of their reserve players to other Spanish teams and are trying to bring a new, young team together.
“They spotted Robert playing for Scotland’s Under- 19s and were impressed enough to offer him a trial. He has just come back from a broken metatarsal, similar to the injury Wayne Rooney sustained before the World Cup.
“He’s only just recently got back into our squad but Barcelona want him over there next week for four or five days and we wish him all the best.
“It a wonderful opportunity for him to sample being at a club of that size even if it’s just for a few days. He’s got all the talent in the world but it is up to him how far he can go in the game.”
