The Brazilian joined Spurs from Hertha Berlin in January 2008 but has failed to make an impact at White Hart Lane.
Parreira could offer the 33-year-old a return to Brazil.
“Gilberto is a name that we have already discussed at the club,” Parreira said in The Times.
“He is a player who could help us.”
