Johnson: I could have played for Poland

He said: “I could have played for Poland through my mum’s dad. They made a serious approach when I’d only played U-20s, so I had a chance.

“It was great compliment but although my grandparents are half-Polish, I’m English and the only country I ever wanted to play for was England.

“So I took my chances and then my dream came true about two months later when I made my debut at Villa Park against Holland. I was incredibly proud and know I made the right decision.”
