Reports in South America suggest the 27-year-old could make a return to his homeland in a £2million deal.
“It’s not true that we have already reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid, but we may do so early next week,” said Internacional vice-president Fernando Carvalho.
“We can’t make an official announcement when we don’t have an agreement in place because we can’t distract a player who is about to play an important match for his current team in the Champions League.”
