United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is aware of reports that claim Johnson could be sold for £6million in the January transfer window, according to the Mirror.
Johnson’s contract with Boro expires next June and the winger could leave the club on a Bosman next summer, so Ferguson believes he can get the youngster in a cut-price move.
Spurs, Everton, Fulham and Sunderland have all been monitoring the youngster.
