German newspaper Bild says Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez is keen to add more depth to his squad and Elia is one of his targets for January.
Elia joined Hamburg from Twente last summer for a reported fee of €9million.
The Dutchman’s contract with Hamburg is set to expire in the summer of 2014.
Bild says Liverpool could decide to use Ryan Babel as part of a deal to sign the Hamburg star.
