The United youngsters came in for criticism, following their performance in the Champions League home defeat by Besiktas last week.
Gibson netted twice in United’s 2-0 win over Spurs in the Carling Cup at Old Trafford.
The Irishman told Sky Sports: “It was a good team performance following last week. We bounced back and the young lads did well.
“We didn’t go out to try and prove anything. Sometimes you have bad days and today was a good day.”
