The Cottagers managed to beat CSKA Moscow 1-0 in Group E on Thursday and still have a chance of a Europa League last-32 spot.
Hodgson told Five: “I’m pleased we won the game and kept a clean sheet.
“There were an awful lot of positives from our point of view.
“Now we give ourselves a chance in the final game.
“We’ll go to Basel and see what happens there. It’s nice to know we’re not out of it.
“I know people must be tired of me saying this, but had we got the results against Roma that we deserved and should have had, we’d have been going to Basle with a junior team as we’d have qualified already.”
“I thought the first-half performance was really good. It was a bit of a shame it was only 1-0 at half-time,” Hodgson added.
“If it was 2-0 or 3-0 which I think we deserved it would have been an easier second half.
“Unfortunately for us they managed to exert pressure but it pleased me that we managed to stand up to that pressure.”
