Reports have suggested that Sunderland boss Steve Bruce are keen to bring in the Ivory Coast international.
“I will stay with Hamburg. That is certain,” Demel told the Hamburger Morgenpost.
“What made me happy was the telephone call that I had last week with our club boss Bernd Hoffmann.
“He said to me that he would be pleased if I would continue to play for Hamburg when I come back from the African Cup of Nations.
“And I also realised that many fans did not want me to go.”
He added: “I could have made almost double in Sunderland what I earn with Hamburg.”
Demel’s contract with Hamburg is set to expire in 2012.
