Ferdinand was charged by The Football Association with violent conduct following the clash with Hull on Saturday.
Video replays showed that Ferdinand swung an arm at Hull star Craig Fagan in the second half of United’s 4-0 win on Saturday.
Ferdinand has denied the charge, if he had accepted it he would have missed the clash with City.
A statement on the FA’s official website read: “A regulatory commission will hear the charge on Thursday 28 January.”
