Ferdinand could have picked up an automatic three-match ban for his forearm smash on Hull striker Craig Fagan has he pleaded guilty to the charge.
But that would have seen him miss Wednesday’s Carling Cup semi-final clash with Manchester City.
An FA statement read: “The Independent Commission felt that the player’s claim against the charge was frivolous and on that basis have awarded an additional one-match ban upon the statutory three-game suspension awarded for violent conduct.”
Ferdinand will miss the matches against Arsenal, Portsmouth, Aston Villa and Everton.
