The England striker scored two goals in the 3-0 win over West Ham on Tuesday.
Rooney has now scored 23 goals in the league and 27 in total this season.
“I am just enjoying playing and scoring goals,” he told Sky Sports.
“Hopefully it continues but I have never really set targets.”
Rooney is now desperate to feature in the Carling Cup final against Aston Villa on Sunday.
“Obviously I missed it last year because I was a bit ill before the game so I didn’t play but hopefully I can play this year,” he said.
