Campbell joined Sunderland from United in a £3.5million deal last summer.
Sunderland face United at the Stadium of Light this weekend.
“I’d like Man U to win the league – I’ve still got a lot of friends there – but I am a Sunderland player now and I want us to win the game this weekend,” said Campbell.
“I don’t see why we can’t do that. Although it will be a massive challenge for us, there are a few things on our side. We’ve tended to do well against the top teams this season and we came within seconds of getting a win against United at Old Trafford earlier in the season.
“Then there is the fact that we are at home and our home form this season has been really good.
“On top of that, we have been in good form recently. Over the last few games we are right up there with the best teams in the Premier League.
“We want to finish in the top half of the table so we have everything to play for this weekend and it should be a cracking game.”
“I’ve played for three teams in my career – Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Hull City – and it is one of those things that happen in football that Sunderland are playing all three in the space of a month,” Campbell added.
“But the match I’ve been looking forward to more than the other two combined, is this one against Man U. For me, it will be the game of the season because I think there will be a fantastic atmosphere, we’ll have a chance of getting something from the game and hopefully I can contribute to a good performance.”
