Chelsea revealed on Wednesday that Ballack would not be offered a new deal at the club.
The 33-year-old has been linked with Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid and now Wolfsburg, according to the Daily Mail.
Wolfsburg general manager Dieter Hoeness has confirmed that he will discuss a move for Ballack with McClaren.
