Robinson was named in the England squad for the upcoming friendly against Hungary however it is believed that he was tired of being third choice in the England set up.
“For the time being, England will miss him. They missed him at the World Cup because he should have gone there,” said Allardyce after Robinson impressed in a 2-1 friendly victory over Celtic.
“He feels that if he isn’t going to be No.1, then he doesn’t feel the need to be traveling with England.
“You’d have to ask him if he’d come back if guaranteed the No.1 spot, but I would presume so.
“Certainly at this moment in time, though, he doesn’t feel that’s the case. He feels that he should be No.1 and has always felt that way.
“As my player, I support him because I see him week in, week out and know how well he has performed.
“It’s a big decision he’s made, but I understand it.”
Allardyce believes Robinson is a much better player now than when he joined Blackburn from Tottenham in 2008.
“He has constantly improved his game over the last 18 months and his confidence has grown,” said Allardyce.
“What you saw (against Celtic) was a reflection of how he has been for me since I’ve been here.”
