The 21-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for Villa and spent time on loan at Lincoln and Leyton Orient last season.
Lichaj joined Villa in 2007 aafter impressing for the United States under-17 team.
“I am delighted. I now have a better opportunity to get into the first team,” Lichaj told Villa’s website.
“Hopefully when I start playing here I can get into the USA team. That would be nice,” Lichaj said.
