The 20-year-old’s former agent offered his client to the Dutch side while the youngster played for Portuguese third division club Estrala da Amador.
Vitoria de Guimaraes ended up signing the Portugal Under-21 and just five weeks later the youngster made the surprise switch to United.
“I offered him to PSV in May,” Goncalo Reis told BBC Sport.
“But they turned him down because they didn’t know him.”
