Chimbonda came close to joining West Ham on transfer deadline day.
“It is true West Ham tried to sign me on transfer deadline day, but Blackburn decided to keep me,” Chimbonda told Sky Sports.
“The chairman told me I was too important to the team to sell as I can play at right-back, left-back or centre-back.
“I have heard rumours about a new contract and I would be happy to sit down with the club and discuss a new deal to stay at Blackburn.”
