Gold is ready to hand the 31-year-old midfielder a new deal if the former Newcastle star can prove his fitness over the coming season.
Gold said: “If he plays two thirds of the games this season, why wouldn’t we want him to stay at the club for the rest of his career?
“A new contract is certainly something we would look into.”
