Inter Milan won the Champions League last year, with current Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho in charge.
Inter Milan are set to face Twente in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Speaking at a pre-match Press Conference, Benitez said: “I have a fantastic team and I don’t think about what has happened in the past.
“You’ll see something after two months. But I want to see more progress.
“Twente are a strong team who have intensity and quality. It will be a difficult game. We have watched them on video and they will be looking to start their Champions League adventure in the right way.
“The most important thing is Inter, not the opponents. We mustn’t speak too much about the opponents, but concentrate ourselves on Inter. If we do well, game after game, we will obtain good results.
“If we have the intensity and the mentality of last year we can win the Champions League again because we have quality.
“Every year is different. Inter did very well last year, but now the situation is different. We must do well, also because last year in the group stages it wasn’t at all easy.
“I think that all the games are difficult and no one is through before they play. We must face every game without thinking about being through, as if every match were the most important.”
