Ciftci and Richie’s contracts with Pompey are set to expire next summer and Cotterill are keen for the duo to sign extended contracts.
“We want to give both Nadir and Matt new contracts,” Cotterill told The News. “It is something we need to look at.
“I want them to remain here simply because they’ve done well and their contracts are running out at the end of the season.
“Whether they stay here in the future or not is another thing, but they are two good young lads I would like to continue working with.
“Obviously, they have still a lot to learn and we have to be careful.
“Some people are clamouring for Nadir to be in the team and portray him to be the best thing since sliced bread.
“But we also saw against Ipswich what happens to the other side of him when he didn’t do too well.
“I think I will carry on doing what I want to do with that one and he might just turn into a player.”
