The Eredivisie giants picked up a 2-0 win against Werder Bremen in Germany.
“This is an amazing feeling for us. An away game against Werder Bremen was never going to be easy, so we’re absolutely delighted with this win,” Wisgerhof was quoted as saying by NOS.
“We have a lot of injuries and missed some key players today. We were dealt a bit of a blow with the late injury absences of Wout Brama and Theo Janssen. However, we coped with it pretty well. The youngsters who filled in did a great job.
“We created a lot of chances, but initially failed to find the net. We did manage to open the scoring late in the second half though. Werder are a very good team, but we never really feared that we would lose the game.
“We were brimming with confidence and we knew that we would continue to create chances. We were very well organised and this paid off. I think that we deserved our win.”
