The Argentine has an Italian passport and has long claimed that he would be open to playing for Italy.
“I feel great joy,” he told the official Lazio website.
“If the call-up to the Nazionale arrived, I owe it above all to my family, my teammates, the club, all the staff, the Biancocelesti fans and the whole Lazio world.”
