Carlo Cudicini had to replace Cech in the Chelsea goal, three minutes into the match, because of an injury. The Italian was also injuried in the final moments of the match, and had to be replaced by defender John Terry.
An own goal by Reading captain Ingimarsson in the 45th minute was the difference between the two sides.
Chelsea striker Drogba was shown the red card in the 83rd minute. On added time there was a fight on the touchline, which ended in Chelsea physio Rui Faria beeing sent to the stands.
