Bent’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2013.
“I can’t believe how well it’s gone. If the offer of an extension came up I’d be more than happy to sign it,” Bent told the News of the World.
“It’s all about the football up here. It’s all passion, passion, passion, but the supporters’ intensity has never scared me.
“They are looking at me to get the goals and that is a massive confidence booster.”
Bent heaped praise on Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and backed his manager to move on to a bigger club in the future.
He added: “He’s got the ability to be the next England manager. Fergie [Sir Alex Ferguson] is not going to go on forever, so that big job is waiting for someone to go and grab.
“He’s a top man manager. When you’re playing well, there’s no-one better at giving you a lift. When you’re not doing well, he doesn’t go over the top. He seems to get it right every time.”
