Champions League Group A was by many felt as the closest of this season’s competition.
With a 3-3 draw at Twente on Tuesday, Spurs managed to clinch the top spot.
“At the start I said this was a tough group,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“We’ve got a team here that’s near the top of the Dutch league, Werder Bremen are a good side with lots of good players and have gone and beat Inter Milan, and Inter are the holders so I thought it was the toughest group.
“We ended up in that group and to top it is a great achievement from the players.”
Spurs ended up scoring 17 goals and conceding 11 from their six games in Group A.
“That’s how we’ve been,” said Redknapp. “We’ve gone for it every game.
“We ended up tonight with two wide men and played with two up front. We came here and had a go, thinking we could win.
“That’s how we play, we didn’t sit back and invite them on. We got goals and conceded three as well but overall I’m delighted with the effort of the players.”
“We tend to score plenty of goals and seem to give them away as well,” said Redknapp. “But I thought the penalty and the free-kick at the end looked a bit harsh.
“You want to win, you want to win all games, but it was important we finished top of the group and we’ve done that so I can’t ask any more of the boys.”
