The Reds suffered a defeat to Blackpool on Wednesday, in Dalglish’s first league game as Liverpool boss in 20 years.
“It is obviously a big challenge,” he said. “Very, very seldom do you get a job that you walk into that doesn’t give you challenges. For me the encouraging thing is the attitude of the players. The harder they try, the luckier they will get so we will keep trying very hard. It is all very well being a decent side but every team that has been successful needs that bit of luck.
“At the moment, maybe that has turned against us a wee bit. The longer we stick in, the less sorry we feel for ourselves, but we have got a lot of work to do other than being lucky. We have to make sure we get in the right position to be lucky.
“But the intention and desire of the players is quite pleasing. The only problem we will have is if they do not show the commitment the club deserves. They have shown that – we just need the results.
“There are a couple of things for us to sort out. If the problems lay within yourselves, you’ve got a chance to solve them.”
