The 32-year-old has been struggling with injury problems in recent years, but has managed to make 18 appearances for United in all competitions so far this season.
“I’m buzzing again. Now I want to play for as long as possible,” he told the News of the World.
“My dream is to carry on until I’m 39 or 40. I don’t want to finish my career and think, ‘if I had given that little bit extra, spent a bit more time on the training ground, I would have been able to play a year or two more’.”
He added on the season so far: “The critical point for me was getting through those (games) without injury.
“Playing three tough games in such a short space of time at any time in your career is difficult, but with the stuff I’ve been through it was great to come through in good shape.
“I feel good, I’m in a happy place right now. I am getting games under my belt and have reached a good level of consistency.
“I am pain-free and enjoying my football.”
