Liverpool have had a £12.8million bid for the Uruguayan striker turned down, with Ajax looking for at least £21million for the 25-year-old.
“We don’t want to lose him,” Ajax coach Frank de Boer said. “Liverpool know what they have to pay and we are sticking to our guns.
“We want to know by January 29, after that nothing more will happen.”
