The 26-year-old’s current contract with Villa is set to expire at the end of the season and the midfielder has recently been linked with the likes of Valencia, Sevilla, Roma, Juventus and Napoli.
His agent Tony Finnigan said: “We are putting the contract talks on hold until the end of the season.
“In the meantime, as Nigel is a Bosman, there’s a lot of foreign clubs interested.”
