The 29-year-old has only a year left of his current deal with Bordeaux.
Wendel told L’Equipe: “I want to stay. It’s a club where I feel good and I’ve spent some good times.
“And who knows? If I have a very good start to the season, maybe the directors will offer me something.
“People have a short memory and that saddens me. Last season, 95% of the team struggled, myself included, but that was my only poor season.
“Everyone has forgotten that I have been at the club for four years, my goals, my assists. I want to prove to these people that they are wrong and that I am not finished.”
