The midfielder has one year left to run on his contract, and having signed Yohan Cabaye from Lille, Newcastle seem to be trying to change their style and bring in more sophisticated players, which could spell the end for the rather one dimensional and limited style of Barton.
“Unfortunately at the moment there is no new contract for him. He has a year remaining and I think he will stay for that year. I think, like a lot of players, that yearly term contracts in the Premier League are going to be the norm,” said Pardew.
