Rush said in his column for the Liverpool Echo: “I’d love to see Robbie Fowler get at least one more season at Anfield.
“He proved with his two penalties on Saturday (against Sheffield United) that even though he’s no longer first pick of the strikers, he can still do a job when called upon.
“But even if his future is away from Liverpool next season, he’s right to carry on playing.
“Knowing Robbie as I do, I can’t see him wanting to play for anyone else in England.
“He’s been down that road once before and it just wasn’t the same for him. I think he stopped enjoying the game for a while when he left Merseyside the first time.
“I suspect he’d consider his options abroad, perhaps playing somewhere like the USA or Dubai.
“I wouldn’t rule out his chances of staying here for another year though.”
