The 23-year-old has joined Reading on a free transfer after being released by French side Lille over the summer.
Reading have the option of extending Baseya’s contract by another year.
Reading manager Brian McDermott told the club’s official website: “We’ve known about him for quite a while now. He has played out in France and was at Southampton as a youngster.
“He’s about 6ft 4in and he’s good in the air so will win headers, he’s aggressive, and he’s still very young.
“So he’s pleased to come here and it’s a deal we’re pleased to do. He’ll come in and be part of the group of strikers we’ve got here and we’ll see how he develops with us. I’m sure he’ll do really well in the next year.”
