The former Manchester United and Arsenal defender has been out of action since June with a knee injury.
He told Syker Kreiszeitung: “The doctor told me I would have to be out for up to four months, so I am still hopeful of returning to action in November.
“I would like to be back in training by then. And I would enjoy having match action before Christmas, too.”
He added: “The club have signed new players in my position in my absence.
“It is a good opportunity for Aleksandar Ignjovski and it’s a good chance for Lukas Schmitz as well. But it is also good for me.
“No one can relax with the good competition. Everyone needs to push himself to get more out of it.”
