The Egypt international scored his first goal for the club against West Brom last Saturday.
He told The Journal: “This is my second season here now and it’s been very good.
“I feel better than I did last season and in every game I learn something new, and feel more experienced in the Premier League. Everything here is very good. Sunderland as a club, with the fans, are very good.
“It was very good to get my first goal, I feel better for it. When you score, for any player, but me especially, it has given me a lot of confidence. There is more to come from me after this, definitely.
“When you play and score your first goal you want to do it again and hopefully I can do that.”
“I have had one-and-a-half seasons here now, I’m happy on the right of midfield, or attacking and defending as a right-back as well,” he added.
“I’ll get better as every game goes by in the Premier League but the games I’ve played so far, I feel I’ve done better than last season.”
